What size of homes are offered at Blackstone?
The smallest home allowable on property would have a footprint of 1200 square feet. Homes all have a full basement, so, for our smallest home plan, our price list reflects 1201 square feet finished up and 1201 square feet unfinished down. You have the option of finishing as much, or little, of the lower level as you require, whenever you require it. You are thereby able to make your living space whatever size you need very cost efficiently. We can finish lower level space for you, you can have it finished by another party, or you can finish it yourself.
Acorn Homes is a custom home builder, so you can choose any size for your home, above 1200 square feet. There are 14 home plans on our price list varying in size up to 3100 square feet (with lower level finished). However, we are happy to help you modify any standard plan to suit your needs, quote on a home plan you bring to us, or entertain a completely custom home plan for you.
How long would it take for Acorn to build my home?
A Single Family detached home will take around 6 to 7 months, a side-by-side Golf Villa will take around 7 to 8 months. That is the total time it takes from an agreement becoming unconditional. It includes designing your home with you, having drawings and blueprints drafted, applying for permit, and construction right through to taking occupancy. These times are approximate, they may vary depending on the contract changes you make and time of year for weather.

How does the buying and building process work at Blackstone?
The easiest way for you to start at Blackstone is a reservation. That’s simply a refundable $1,000 deposit that holds a lot so someone else will not be able to scoop it from under you. Because no one wants to purchase something until they know what it costs, we then design your home with you to establish the cost of construction. If everything meets your budget and requirements, we can commence building your home. You can meet with any, or all, of our suppliers, which ensures that you can truly customize your home for how you live.
What kind of options and upgrades do you offer?
As a custom builder, virtually every option and upgrade in the market is available to you. We provide a very nice standard level of finish. You can then upgrade to the trendiest and most expensive the market has to offer, go tried and true classic, or be as frugal as you like by downgrading and receiving credits. All choices are yours.
How long has Acorn Homes been building homes and communities? Are there other developments built by Acorn?
Our president and owner, Greg Bird, has been building homes and communities for over 30 years, beginning in the industry with family business Bird Construction. Then came his own projects in Edmonton and Canmore before taking over Acorn Homes here in Kelowna in 2000.
Our projects in the Okanagan include Morningside, a sold out development in Glenrosa; West Avenue Lofts, in Pandosy Village; Sunset Ranch, in north Kelowna built around Sunset Ranch Golf & Country Club: and Blackstone. You’ll also want to watch for three upcoming developments, a 110 acre project at McKinley Landing, the 60 acre McCoubrey Plateau project in Lake Country and "Osprey at Pandosy Village", a 24 unit condo project.
What's different or unique about Blackstone from other developments?
Blackstone is in the unique position of being referred to as “the country in the city”. The Black Mountain green belt is the community's neighbour to the east. The neighbour to the west is a small hobby farm, with horses and other more exotic animals.
Blackstone is located on the south east edge of the city. To take advantage of world class dry powder skiing at Big White Ski Resort you need only jump on Highway 33, just down the hill, and within 35 minutes your boards are on the snow. There is no other neighbourhood in the city of Kelowna that is closer. Additionally, Blackstone is located adjacent to the new Black Mountain Golf Course. Heading east on Highway 33, turn left on Black Mountain Drive, then right on Begley Road, and right again on Shauna Road.
